Educational Advocacy
DOE Special Education Complaints & Due Process Hearings
We will review your child’s complete Special Education records and consult with you to determine if any Special Education laws have been violated. If so, we will file a formal complaint on your child’s behalf or request a due process hearing with the state department of education. We will serve as your advocate throughout the process to ensure that the presenting problem is resolved, and adequate compensatory services are provided.
Individualized Education Plan (IEP)
Our comprehensive neuropsychological and psychoeducational evaluations are designed to investigate any factors that may be negatively impacting your child’s education. With the data provided by the evaluation, we will work with your child’s school to determine if he/she meets Georgia eligibility criteria for Special Education. We will attend all meetings with you working together with the school to develop an Individualized Education Plan of various setting accommodations and curriculum modifications designed to meet your child’s academic, social-emotional, and behavioral needs within the school.
504 Plan
“504” refers to an actual law. Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act protects people with disabilities, which can include learning and attention issues, from being discriminated against in schools and in the workforce. Any child with a diagnosed medical condition (including psychological disorders such as ADHD, Anxiety, and Autism) has legal rights and the school is required to help. A 504 is a specialized list of accommodations unique to your child that creates an opportunity for he or she to perform to the best of their ability. We attend these meetings to educate the school team on your child’s unique needs and ensure that everyone is on the same page about your child’s best interests.
RTI/ MTSS Meetings
“Response to Intervention” and “Multi-Tiered Systems of Support” are multi-level prevention systems that school districts across the nation use to integrate assessment and intervention within a school-wide framework to maximize student achievement and reduce behavioral problems. Our Cora Lee advocates can attend meetings with you to help you understand and navigate the process. We will work together with the school staff in developing interventions appropriate to the needs of your child.
Case Consultation
Have you recently received a report card or progress report containing some concerning grades? Are you consistently receiving phone calls from the classroom teacher about your child’s behavior? Not sure if a behavior is developmentally appropriate or a symptom of a potential issue? Do you think something may be wrong but you’re not sure where to start? Our consultation services offer you the opportunity to come and sit with trained professionals who will listen to your concerns and help you determine how to appropriately address them.
Gifted Education
At Cora Lee we can conduct a comprehensive neuropsychological or psychoeducational evaluation to determine if your child possesses an exceptional intellect best supported through the Gifted Education program at his/ her school. We will write a full psychological evaluation report and share it with your child’s school as evidence of the child’s eligibility for services.
Referrals and Resources
Often our comprehensive evaluations reveal underlying concerns or areas of deficit that may require support through ancillary agencies. We can make direct referrals to trusted individuals in our network of agencies for services such as psychopharmacological intervention, speech therapy, occupational therapy, and in-patient treatment to name a few.
