Academic Support
We are committed to provide each student a safe and supportive environment that promotes self-advocacy, motivation, and excellence in learning as students pursue their educational goals. Our services can be adapted for individual student needs from preschool through college.
Standardized Test Prep
The best way to prepare for the SAT and ACT is to learn test taking strategies. Most standardized tests such as these really only measure critical thinking skills by assessing how well you take the test. Of course, students will need to refresh their knowledge of certain subject matter, but they also need to familiarize themselves with the test itself. Our SAT/ ACT test prep course will assess each student’s academic needs, remediate areas of weakness, explain how the test is structured, provide tips and tricks for tackling the test, and expose students to a plethora of sample test items.
Tutoring / Academic Coaching
Certified educators provide your child with the support they need based on data obtained from school records and any previous psychoeducational evaluations. They design personalized and engaging lessons that address academic deficits and equip your child with the tools to excel. Coaches communicate directly with your child’s teacher regarding curriculum standards, outstanding assignments, upcoming exams, and course grades to establish effective home-school communication and ensure the student is progressing adequately. Our academic coaches work with public, private, and home-school students and can meet with the students at our office or at a more convenient off-site location. Study skills, test taking skills, SAT/ACT/SAT Subject test preparation, subject-specific tutoring, executive functioning/ organization and remediation are some of the educational services offered.
Executive Functioning & Organizational Skills
Executive functions are the mental processes that enable us to plan, focus attention, shift attentions, remember information, regulate emotions, and multi-task successfully. The brain needs this skill set to filter distractions, prioritize tasks, set and achieve goals, and control impulses. Due to conditions such as Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder, traumatic brain injury, and Autism that adversely impact executive functions, many individuals struggle with organizational skills. At Cora Lee our trained academic coaches take students on a deep dive into organizational skills by teaching them how to organize their materials, set goals, make plans, manage their time, and monitor progress in order to increase productivity and performance and to remain calm and in control.
